Assessment and Referral
Initial Assessment
The initial confidential assessment is conducted by a fully licensed, master's or PhD level counselor during one or more meetings. As with all FSAP services, this service is entirely free of charge to the faculty/staff member. During these initial meetings, your counselor will gather a thorough history from you. Based on these meetings, the FSAP counselor may recommend short term counseling at FSAP, referrals to other providers for additional evaluation and/or support, or connect you with ongoing counseling in the community.
Referral
Some concerns will require a referral to an outside provider. FSAP maintains referral resource of psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers, as well as providers within other disciplines, within the Boulder/Denver community in order to provide appropriate referrals to CU-Boulder employees seeking assistance beyond the scope of the FSAP. Following the Initial Assessment meeting, the FSAP counselor will give you a list of providers that would be appropriate for follow up. The decision to accept the recommendations of the FSAP counselor remains with you.
A faculty/staff member could also call us directly to ask for referrals for themselves or for others without a formal assessment. Some examples of referrals are community resources, hospice, eldercare, childcare, shelters etc…
