Managing the Workforce
Hiring & Position Management

New Employees

Layoffs
There are times when budgetary impacts or changes in business needs require the difficult decision to eliminate positions. When this happens, we strive to provide support and guidance to managers and employees alike. When the possibility of layoffs occur, it is critical that Human Resources be involved from the very beginning.
Managing Compensation & Work
Overtime & FLSA
The federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) regulations set forth the criteria and requirements for determining if a position qualifies for exemption from overtime and/or minimum wage requirements. Information about the determination of FLSA exemption and issues related to overtime can be found here.
Leave
Leave options available to CU employees include leaves such as Vacation, Sick, Holiday, Bereavement, Jury, Military, Administrative, On-the-Job Injury, Disability, Family Medical, Parental and Unpaid Leave.
Compensation

Wages are determined according to merit and market surveys with the goal of providing equitable pay for equitable work. Issue Resolution
A variety of options exist at the University of Colorado for addressing and resolving personnel issues. These include mediation, conflict resolution, counseling, formal grievance, dispute resolution and appeals processes, threat assessments, procedures for discrimination and harassment complaints, disability accommodation requests and incident reporting through EthicsPoint.

Disability Accommodations
At the University of Colorado at Boulder, employees with disabilities are entitled to access, support, and when appropriate, reasonable accommodations. The ADA Coordinator supports the ongoing development of an accessible university that embraces and celebrates diversity. The ADA Coordinator provides disability-related information, services, and resources for faculty and staff. The ADA Coordinator is responsible for providing reasonable accommodations for faculty and staff, educating the campus community, and promoting equal access and opportunity for those with disabilities. Additionally, the ADA Coordinator, in conjunction with the Chancellor's Committee on Campus Accessibility, addresses the structural accessibility needs of students, faculty and staff.
Records Services
The Department of Human Resources has been given the authority to handle access of official personnel records outside of Open Records Requests. The Records Services unit is responsible for maintaining the official personnel records for all classified and exempt professional CU-Boulder and System Administration employees. To review a file, contact at Records Services at 303 492-4844. A 24 hour notice is required. Records Services is located at: Administrative and Research Center East Campus 3100 Marine Street, Third Floor Boulder, Colorado 80309-0565.
